How We Found Out Lily Collins and Sonequa Martin-Green Use Our Lip Scrub

The lip scrub Lily Collins wore on Vogue — Cocolicious Luscious Lip Scrub

Imagine our surprise when we woke up one morning and found our DMs bombarded with messages that Lily Collins uses our lip scrub!

We genuinely thought someone had got it wrong. Then we watched the video. Then we watched it again, probably ten more times, passing a phone around the team going "is that — is this a dream" It wasn't. The Cocolicious Luscious Lip Scrub, in Lily Collins's own Vogue video, buffed on with a lip brush like she'd been using it for years. We may have made some undignified noises.

Here's the part we still can't get over: we had nothing to do with it. We hadn't sent her anything and hadn't reached out — we found out from you, the same morning you did. She just uses it. That's it. That's the whole story, and honestly it's the best kind a small brand could hope for.

Lily Collins, in Vogue

If you haven't seen it: Vogue's "Beauty Secrets" is the series where they hand someone the mic and let them walk through their actual routine, no script. In her Day-to-Night French Girl Look from October 2020, the Emily in Paris star gets to her lips and reaches for the Cocolicious Luscious Lip Scrub in Coconut Sorbet, working it in with a lip brush before her colour goes on. Have a watch — we're still not fully over it.

And then it happened again — Sonequa Martin-Green, in Harper's Bazaar

We'd barely caught our breath when the second one landed. That same month, Star Trek: Discovery's Sonequa Martin-Green did Harper's Bazaar's "Go To Bed With Me," walked through her nighttime routine, and reached for the very same lip scrub. Two videos, two magazines, one very small team in a proper happy daze. Same as with Lily: we didn't send it, didn't pay for it, and had no idea until it was already out in the world. She just uses it too.

Why this one meant so much to us

We've never had a celebrity budget or a roster of famous faces on retainer — that's just never been how we've done things. For over a decade it's been a much quieter thing: someone tries the lip scrub, likes it, tells a friend, leaves a review. One honest recommendation at a time. It turns out two of those recommendations happened to come from people with rather large audiences, entirely by chance. We didn't win it with marketing. We'd like to think we won it with the formula — and we'll happily take that.

So — the jar everyone's been asking about

Since the videos, a lot of you have asked what's actually in it, so here's the honest tour. The Cocolicious Luscious Lip Scrub (Coconut Sorbet) is a fine coconut-sugar scrub in a tub — sugar soft enough for lips, no plastic microbeads anywhere near it. Jojoba and avocado oil are blended right through, so your lips are softened while they're buffed rather than left tight and stripped. Glycerin and lecithin help hold on to moisture, and a little vitamin E (tocopherol) rounds it off. It smells like actual coconut, because it basically is. Vegan, cruelty-free, naturally derived — and it buffs away the dry, flaky bits so lips are smooth and ready for balm, gloss, or a proper bold lip. There's a Matcha Latte one too, if coconut isn't your flavour.

How to use it (the way they did)

Scoop a pea-size amount onto damp lips and buff it in with a fingertip or a lip brush — the brush is the little trick behind that even, tidy finish you can spot in both videos. Two or three times a week does it; every day is more than lips need. Follow straight after with a lip balm or lip mask to lock the softness in.

FAQ

Is this the same lip scrub they used?
Yes — Coconut Sorbet, the exact one in both the Vogue and Harper's Bazaar videos.

Were the features paid?
No, and we want to be clear about that: we didn't sponsor, brief, or pay for either. Both of them reached for it on their own.

How often should I scrub my lips?
Two to three times a week, on damp lips, always followed by a balm. Any more and lips can end up sensitive rather than soft.
