Before Powder Dry Shampoo Was a Whole Aisle

Handmade Heroes was built on filling gaps mainstream beauty hadn't gotten to yet — the products people were improvising at home because nobody was selling them properly. A fine, non-aerosol dry shampoo powder was one of those gaps. Long before powder formulas were stacked three deep at every beauty counter, we were already selling one. That makes Drop Dead Gorgeous one of the first commercial powder dry shampoos we're aware of — not the first idea anyone ever had (people have been dusting starch and cornflour onto their roots for generations), but one of the first versions you could actually buy in a jar, from a brand, rather than mixing in your own kitchen.

Why We Went Powder, Not a Can

Aerosol was the obvious choice at the time. It's what "dry shampoo" meant to most people. We went a different route on purpose. A loose powder puts the amount and the placement in your hands, literally — you decide how much lands at the root and exactly where, with no propellant involved at any point. There's no hissing can, no cloud of spray to aim, no waiting around for a wet-feeling mist to dry down. Just a pinch of powder, worked in with a brush or your fingertips, on your terms.

What a Dry Shampoo Powder Actually Does

Worth being upfront about this: a dry shampoo isn't a substitute for washing your hair. What it does is absorb excess oil and odour right at the root and refresh second- and third-day hair in between washes — it buys your style time, it doesn't clean the way water and shampoo do. We built ours to do that job without the chalky, white cast powder formulas can be known for, and without an aerosol can or an aluminium spray anywhere near your scalp.
